aircraft hangar

Germany, Muritz, 2019

Rather than just using the existing hangar for his aircraft the client wanted to create space for himself and additional guests.
In order to create that space a two-storey timber-framed structure was installed in the hangars concrete shell that now divides the room and separates different functional areas.
One side takes the aircraft and the car whilst the other side functions as an opulent living and dining area.
The new construction itself contains three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, storage rooms and another living area on the 1st floor that opens up to the void and thus connects to the open areas of the ground floor.
Large curtain wall glazing on the tail of the hangar allow a further view in the open from both ground and first floor.
